Christmas Crochet Ideas - Gingerbread Man

Materials Needed:

• Brown yarn for the body
• White yarn for icing details
• Red and green yarn for buttons or other ornamentation
• A small amount of black yarn or safety eyes
• A little pink yarn for blushing - Optional
• 4.0mm  crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Fiberfill (stuffing)

Stitch Guide:

• SC Solo crochet: First insert hook, then yarn over pull through, yarn over pull through both loops.
• INC (Upsurge): Make two single crochet in one stitch.
• DEC (Decrease): Single crochet decrease by working two stitches together.
• SL ST (Slip Stitch): Insert hook in stitch indicated, yarn over, pull through stitch and loop on hook.

Step 1: Crochet the Body-Front and Back Pieces

Start with the Head

Round 1: Begin with a magic ring and knit and crochet 6 SC into it. Pull to tighten.

Rnd 2: (INC in each st around - 12 stitches).

Round 3: [SC, INC] around (18 stitches).

Rnd 4: [SC in next 2 sts, INC] around (24 sts).

Rounds 5-8: SC in each stitch around. (24 stitches per round).

Shape the Body

Rnd 9 : (Follow SC in the next 2 sts, DEC) around (18 sts).

Rnd 10: (follow SC, dec) around (12 sts).

Round 11: SC in each stitch around. (12 stitches).

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Write a Second Body Part

 

Attach a second body piece to the back by repeating steps 1-2.

Tip: Place one on the side while you are decorating the other.

 

Step 2: Add Face and Decorations

Attach Eyes

•  For the eyes, attach safety eyes or sew on small black buttons even on the face area.
• Sew the mouth.
• Stitch a small arc for a smile below the eyes using black yarn.
• Add Buttons and Blush

• Sew small red or green buttons down the front for a festive touch.
• For blush, embroider a small dot of pink yarn onto each cheek.
• Frosting Info

Use white yarn around the arms and legs to stitch on "icing." Use small wavy lines to indicate icing details.

Step 3: Attach the front and back of the body

Stuff the Gingerbread Man

Place the two body pieces right sides and begin sewing them together using the brown yarn.

Stuff with fiberfill before closing all the way to make it plump. Sewing Complete Continue stitching around the edges until completely closed. Bind off, and weave in all ends. 

Step 4: Attaching Hanging Loop (Optional) Create a Loop to Sling If you would like to hang it as an ornament, tie a small piece of yarn at the top of the head in a loop.
