  • yarn over then pull through both loops.
  • Use Half Double Crochet: yarn over then pull through both loops
  • Finally, Slip Stitch

Step 1: Start the Santa Hat Base

Begin with a Magic Circle

Round 1: Create a magic circle. Crochet 6 SC into the ring, pull tight to close, and join with a SL ST (6 stitches).

Increase Rounds to Shape the Hat

  • Round 2: Chain 1. SC in each stitch around (6 SC). Join with a SL ST.
  • Round 3: Chain 1. 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the next stitch, repeat around (9 SC). Join with a SL ST.
  • Round 4: Chain 1. SC in each stitch around (9 SC). Join with an SL ST.
  • Round 5: Chain 1. 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the next 2 stitches, repeat around (12 SC). Join with a SL ST.
  • Round 6: SC in each stitch around (12 SC). Join with an SL ST.

Helpful Hint: Continue these rounds to make the hat larger or stop here for a small mini hat.

Step 2: Create the Brim of the Hat

Switch to White Yarn for the Brim

  • Round 7: Attach white yarn to the last stitch. Chain 1. HDC in each stitch around (12 HDC). Join with a SL ST.

Add Texture to the Brim

  • Round 8: Chain 1. SC in each stitch around (12 SC). Join with an SL ST and fasten off.

Why It Matters: The white brim adds a classic Santa look and provides a clean finish.

Step 3: Add the Pom-Pom

  • Create a Small Pom-Pom
  • Cape the white yarn around two fingers and mix about 10-15 times. Judiciously slide the loops off your fingers and bond them in the centre with yarn.
  • Trim the loops to form a small fluffy pom-pom.
  • Attach the Ball to the Hat
  • Practice your yarn needle to secure the ball to the tip of the hat with a few stitches.
