Crochet Turtle Pattern – So Adorable, Easy, and Enjoyable to Make!

Materials Needed 

  • Worsted weight yarn (green for body, brown for shell, white/black for eyes or safety eyes)
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing (poly fiberfill)
  • Scissors

Stitch Guide

You only need a few easy stitches:

  • SC (Single Crochet): Hook in, yarn over, pull through, yarn over again, pull through both loops.
  • INC (Increase): 2 single crochets in the same stitch.
  • DEC (Decrease): Crochet two stitches together.
  • SL ST (Slip Stitch): Insert in hook, yarn over, draw through both loops.
  • CH (Chain): Yarn over and draw through loop.

Step 1: Turtle Head

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 SC (6)

Round 2: INC in each stitch (12)

Round 3: [SC, INC] all around (18)

Rounds 4–6: SC in each stitch (18)

Round 7: [SC, DEC] all around (12)

Round 8: DEC all around (6)

 

Stuff the head. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

 

Step 2: Turtle Shell (Back)

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 SC (6)

Round 2: INC in each stitch (12)

Round 3: [SC, INC] around (18)

Round 4: [SC in next 2, INC] around (24)

Round 5: [SC in next 3, INC] around (30)

Round 6: SC in each stitch around (30)

 

Fasten off and leave a tail. Stuff before attaching.

 

Step 3: Turtle Belly (Bottom)

Rounds 1–4 of the shell were repeated to form a smaller bottom half (24 stitches).

 

Do not stuff. Sew on a shell.

 

Step 4: Turtle Legs (Make 4)

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 SC (6)

Rounds 2–3: SC around (6)

 

Fasten off. Leave tails to sew.

 


Step 5: Turtle Tail

Chain 4, SC back across (3 SC). Fasten off.

Roll over and form a tiny cone shape and sew it in the back of the shell.

 

Step 6: Turtle Eyes

Use safety eyes between rounds 3 and 4 of the head, or

Embroider eyes with black yarn/thread.

 

Sew the head to the shell, then add legs and tail. Your turtle is finished!
